Gautam Shantilal Adani is the chairman of Adani Group and is currently the 2nd Richest person in India. He was born on 24 June 1962 and basically belongs to Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Talking about his education, he took admitted to Gujarat University but later he dropped out of college. Besides, Gautam is a business-minded person from a very young age. 1. A University Dropout

The current richest man of India i.e. Gautam Adani was educated at Sheth Chimanlal Nagindas Vidyalaya school in Ahmedabad. Then he enrolled for B.Com (Bachelor of Commerce at Gujarat University, but later dropped out after the second year. However, Adani was anxious about business and went to Mumbai to work as a diamond sorter for Mahendra Brothers.

3. Gautam Adani faced a close encounter with death

Kidnapping is not only an unfortunate story in Gautam Adani’s life, but also he was escaped after facing a close encounter with death. Adani was present at one of the most horrific attacks in the country’s history. Yes, it was 26/11. He was having dinner at Mumbai’s iconic Taj hotel with Dubai Port CEO Mohammed Sharaf when it was attacked by Pakistani terrorists on November 26, 2008. They killed over 160 people inside the hotel. Moreover, with the help of the hotel staff, he with other guests hid in the basement.

However, after some time it became too suffocating in the basement and they were shifted to the Taj chamber hall on the upper floor. When the situation got controlled and after spending the whole night there, Gautam Adani was rescued through the back door of the hotel at 8:45 am on Thursday morning by the security personnel. He said “I saw death at a distance of just 15 feet” after his landing at the Ahmedabad airport on November 27.

4. A philanthropist

Gautam Adani donates about 3% of the Group’s earnings for philanthropic activities which focus mainly on education, sustainable livelihood development, community health sectors, etc. Besides, his Vidya Mandir schools provide free education to the one who comes from economically weaker sections of the society. Even he didn’t back down himself during the Covid-19 pandemic and his foundation contributed ₹100 crores to the PM Cares Fund. Moreover, the contribution of ₹5 crores and ₹1 crore was made to the Gujarat CM Relief Fund and Maharashtra CM Relief Fund respectively. In addition to this, he shared in a Twitter post that he with his group is supplying 1,500 cylinders with medical oxygen to the areas where it is needed in Kutch of Gujarat. 

5. Once Gautam Adani was kidnapped

Gautam Adani gained wealth and success which attracted the jealousy of others. The same applied in the case of two gangsters – Fazl-ur-Rehman and Bhogilal Darji who wanted to kidnap him for taking advantage of his riches. Besides, India’s richest man was allegedly held for a ransom of $2 million. On January 1, 1998, Gautam Adani and Shantilal Patel were abducted at gunpoint after they left Karnavati Club and started their way towards Mohammadpura Road according to the charge sheet filed by police. It is known that a scooter came and forcefully stopped their car. Then, a group of men came in a van and kidnapped both of them. However, they were released after the money was sent to the kidnappers.

1. India’s Largest Private Port

Mundra Port situated on the shores of the Gulf of Kutch is the largest private commercial port in India. Besides, this incredible port is owned by Adani Group and operated by Adani Ports & SEZ Limited (APSEZ). However, Mundra Port has an annual handling capacity of 180 million tonnes of Cargo.

2. Runs their own Cargo Trains

Adani Group is so large that Road and Air transportation is not enough to run their business. They run their own private cargo trains in India. Adani Group holds the longest private railway lines in India. Moreover, The total length of the Rail Network of Adani Group is about 300 KM.

7. Protest against Gautam Adani in Australia

Very few people know about the controversy of the Adani Group in Australia. Adani Group is facing massive protests by the local Australians. Besides, the reason for these protests is the coal project at Carmichael Coal Mine.
This controversy started way back in the year 2010 when Adani Group bought a Coal tenement in Queensland. One Year later, Adani Group also purchased Abbot Coal Terminal for coal exports to India. They purchased this site at a whopping rate of $2.7 Billion in Cash and Royalty. Moreover, This project will boost the local economy of Queensland and will wrap up the demand for coal in India. But a few years later, many anti-coal activists and environmental activists claimed that this mining will severely damage the entire ecosystem of Queensland.

The Carmichael coal site is the world’s third-largest coal site in the world and mining it will cause Global Warming. So, many activist groups tangled Adani Group into several legal disputes. This group organized a #STOPADANI campaign in Australia in which they targeted Gautam Adani and former Australian PM Marcolm Turnbull. Even in 2021, Adani Group is still fighting the legal disputes in Australia but somehow managing how this project should start at the earliest.
